Nine PBS Sues to Recover Decades of Archived Media
A public broadcaster is taking legal action to protect a massive archive of television history after its cloud storage provider abruptly shut down.
According to Tom's Hardware, Nine PBS lost access to more than fifty terabytes of historical programming when its cloud vendor ceased operations unexpectedly earlier this year. Although the broadcaster attempted to retrieve the files, communication with the vendor and an acquiring party broke down completely, leading to a successful court ruling that granted the station rights to transfer its media to a new provider.
The broadcaster has now initiated legal proceedings against Iron Mountain, the facility hosting the archives, because the data center backtracked on its agreement to release the files by claiming the defunct vendor actually owned them.
