Investors supporting Anthropic have indicated expectations for an initial public offering in October targeting a valuation of $2 trillion or higher, which would surpass the record-breaking public listing achieved by SpaceX in June. According to reports cited by Fortune, the privately held lab confidentially filed for an IPO with the Securities and Exchange Commission in June following a May funding round that valued the business at $965 billion. Meanwhile, the organization has also engaged in discussions regarding the acquisition of startup Decart AI.

A valuation of $2 trillion places high demands on a business that lacks significant profitability. Within the Nasdaq 100 index, companies typically trade at multiples requiring an annual profit of roughly $59 billion to $79 billion to support such a valuation. Experts note that bridging the gap to a profitable bottom line remains essential for making such a massive public market valuation acceptable to investors. Reaching operating profitability serves as a crucial milestone to help justify the unprecedented scale of the listing before the company joins the public sector.
