Sharp Rise in Liver Damage Reports Linked to Over-the-Counter Pain Reliever
Recent research indicates that poison center data from the past 25 years reveals a dramatic increase in liver injuries.

According to Gizmodo, investigators at the University of Virginia analyzed national poison center records to examine liver harm caused by external substances among individuals over the age of 15. The findings show that the population-adjusted rate of these health incidents surged from 10.9 per million to 52.9 per million between 2000 and 2024, with the majority of cases resulting in hospital admission.
Medications accounted for roughly 90% of the total cases, with standalone acetaminophen serving as the most frequent cause. While alcohol ranked as the second-largest source, other factors like dietary supplements and recreational drugs also saw increases during the analyzed timeframe.
