Court personnel in Connecticut discovered concealed instructions within official documents submitted by an individual representing themselves in a lawsuit against the New York Bariatric Group. The hidden text, formatted in a microscopic white font, directed any software reviewing the materials to favor the plaintiff's legal arguments. Subsequent filings contained additional concealed remarks, such as a hyperlink to an animated television character scene and casual greetings directed at anyone inspecting the layout.
A legal scholar specializing in artificial intelligence spotted the unusual entries, which were subsequently verified by 404 Media. The presiding judge, Walter Spader Jr., emphasized that the judiciary does not utilize automated software to process case files, yet characterized the attempt to alter digital processing as a serious issue regardless of whether it was intended as a joke.
