A deputy assistant to President Donald Trump sent a late-night message in mid-December asking representatives from five different federal agencies to attend a brainstorming session regarding Colorado. Emily Underwood wrote that the meeting's objective was to ensure federal assistance and funding aligned with administration goals for the state.
The correspondence surfaced during a court proceeding in Denver when a senior state attorney presented the document, as reported by The Denver Post. State officials involved in the lawsuit contend the Trump administration retaliated because of the governor's handling of the Tina Peters case and the state's voting procedures.
Following the transmission of the message, multiple departments referenced in the communication initiated negative measures against the state, halting vast sums of funding and planning the closure of a prominent climate facility in Boulder.
