According to NPR, authorities have initiated an inquiry into these specialized betting platforms where individuals risk millions of dollars on verbal choices made by various speakers. In reaction to the regulatory review, the major U.S. prediction platform Kalshi has suspended all sports-related word wagering.
Although wagering on athletic contests makes up the vast majority of weekly trading volume on the platform, bets on sports broadcasters' phrasing have been halted indefinitely. Meanwhile, the site continues to permit wagers concerning remarks made during political gatherings, financial broadcasts, and live TV news programs.
